Start Your Business in Greece Without Leaving Your Country
Step 1 – Choose the Right Corporate Structure
We guide you in selecting the most suitable corporate structure for your business – which could be a capital company, a branch, or a partnership – optimizing for your personal business plan.
Step 2 – Obtain Greek Tax Numbers
Before registering your business, every shareholder – and often directors – must have a Greek tax number (AFM). We arrange AFM registration for foreigners via power of attorney, ensuring fast company formation without the need to travel to Greece.
Step 3 – Secure Your Business License
From retail to tourism and specialized industries, we manage applications and liaise with Greek authorities to obtain your business license quickly, ensuring your company can operate legally as soon as possible.
Step 4 – Register Your Trademark in Greece & the EU
We file and manage your trademark registration with the Greek Industrial Property Organisation (OBI) and, if desired, the EUIPO for EU-wide protection – ensuring your brand name, logo, and identity are legally safeguarded against infringement.
Step 5 – Ensure Compliance with Greek & EU Regulations
We provide ongoing legal support covering GDPR, employment law, and sector-specific EU directives and regulations. This ensures your business in Greece remains compliant, avoids costly penalties, and is ready for seamless expansion across the Greek market.
Most common company types in Greece
Choose your vehicle for entrepreneurship
IKE (Private Company)
Also referred to as the “Greek LLC” this is the most popular company type in Greece and is often used for SMEs and startups. €1 minimum capital, single-member allowed, flexible management, and formation by private document (no notary in standard cases) make it ideal for almost every business.
A.E. (Société Anonyme)
The best solution for scale, investment, or regulated sectors. Chosen by businesses with more founders and/or investors and more complex management. Typically requires a minimum capital of €25,000. The “S.A” requires by law a Board of Directors.
E.E. (Limited Partnership)
At least one General Partner (unlimited liability) and one Limited Partner (liability limited to their contribution). Simple governance, no statutory minimum capital, and quick to register at GEMI.
O.E. (General Partnership)
All partners have unlimited, joint and several liability. Straightforward setup and low maintenance; no minimum capital. Suitable for micro-businesses and professionals who value simplicity and direct control.
Branch of a Foreign Company
Allows you to operate in Greece without forming a new legal entity. We handle legalization of parent documents, Greek tax registration, and appointment of a permanent representative.
N.E.P.A. (Maritime Company for Pleasure Yachts)
A special-purpose maritime company designed to own and charter pleasure yachts under the Greek flag. Offers limited liability with sector-specific rules. Ideal for yacht charter operators and owners.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you incorporate my company if I’m abroad?
Yes. We work under a Power of Attorney so you don’t have to travel. You sign at a Greek Consulate or local notary (with apostille/legalisation), and we handle filings end-to-end.
How long does incorporation take?
Fast once documents are ready. IKE can be formed by private document; A.E. and special cases may require a notary. Banking and any sector licence can add time—we give you a project timeline up front.
Which entity should I choose?
It depends on liability, investors, and activity. IKE fits most SMEs; A.E. suits scale and fundraising; LP/GP are lean partnerships; NEPA is for yacht ownership/charter; a Branch extends a foreign company. We compare options and recommend the best fit.
Do I need a Greek shareholder or director?
No. 100% foreign ownership and control is allowed. We advise on substance expectations for banking, tax, or licensing and help structure roles and signatories.
Will you help open a bank account?
Yes. We prepare a KYC pack, liaise with banks and EMIs, and guide source-of-funds documentation. Remote onboarding may be available depending on bank policy.
Do I need a registered office in Greece?
Yes. Every entity must have a Greek address. We help you lease (or buy) a property for this purpose.
How are profits and dividends taxed?
Profits are usually taxed at a fixed rate of 22%. For capital company types (eg. Private Company, S.A.) a divided tax of 5% applies. Partnerships don’t have a dividend tax because the income is considered personal. Special taxation regimes (down to 0% in some cases) apply to Maritime Companies for Pleasure Yachts.
What about accounting, payroll, and social security?
We connect you with a licensed accountant, set up VAT/corporate tax calendars, and handle EFKA registrations for employees. We also provide an annual compliance timetable.
Can I convert my entity later?
Often yes. Conversions (e.g., GP/LP → IKE, IKE → A.E.) and corporate changes (capital increases, director changes, share transfers) are common. We prepare resolutions and GEMI filings.
Can you keep us compliant after launch?
Absolutely. We provide company secretarial, UBO updates, board/shareholder minutes, annual filings, and reminders – plus ongoing legal support for contracts, IP, and employment.
